The East Port of Spain Development Company Limited is a Special Purpose State Enterprise (SPSE) established by the Government of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago (GORTT) and incorporated in September 2005 under the Companies Act 1995, charged with improving the physical infrastructure of communities in East Port of Spain – an area comprising approximately 78,000 persons in 25,000 households that covers 2,700 hectares and extends from Charlotte Street in the west to communities north and east of Lady Young Road and south to the Beetham Highway, including Sea Lots/Katanga. The Company commenced operations in May 2006.
The Company was mandated to develop and redevelop East Port of Spain to improve economic, social and physical conditions in the area. Our current establishment is twenty-four (24) employees, two (2) of whom are currently temporary. There are fifty (50) positions on our establishment, all of which are contract positions and we are in the process of trying to fill some of the vacancies. Our main units of operations are Administration, Projects Management and Communications.
Administratively, the Company has been moved to different Ministries over the years from Local Government to Planning and now Ministry of Housing and Urban Development. Currently we are governed by a Board of four (4) Directors (which includes the Managing Director). We expect the numbers to be increased since previously we had a Board with a Chairman of up to approximately eleven other (11) Directors. We are located at # 76 Eastern Main Road, Laventille, Port of Spain.
Our development works in the communities have involved physical infra structural works eg. retaining walls, latrine eradication, building of pavilions, play parks etc, examples of social development activities have included hosting events such as family Sports day, Arts & Cultural events, facilitating skills and competency development such as entrepreneurial skills for youths and contractors, facilitating and coordinating skills training at Community Impact Centres initiated by the Company, cinema nights, Sports competitions among communities within the district and sponsoring or contributing to events organised by groups in the area.
