The Ministry of Trade and Industry is positioned to advance trade facilitation and investment promotion in Trinidad and Tobago, with the penultimate goal to promote the country as the premiere destination in the Caribbean for business leaders.
Development of the non-energy sector through economic diversification is a vital part of the Government’s strategy for long term, economic growth and sustainability. To this end, the Ministry spearheads the diversification of the economy under the leadership and direction of its Minister through the creation and promotion of trade, business and investment opportunities.
The Ministry of Trade and Industry is simultaneously responsible for the stimulation of domestic and foreign investment, in the sectors of creative industries (fashion, film and music); maritime; tourism; financial services; and downstream energy, among others.
Strategically positioned as the industrial and commercial capital of the Caribbean, Trinidad and Tobago is driven to maintain and advance our competitive edge within the global environment. The Ministry continues to formulate more appropriate industrial and services policies, geared towards creating a consultative and supportive environment for business and industrial activity. The mechanisms used to achieve this include support for business expansion and industrial restructuring, expansion of the export capability of local companies and development of the legislative framework to support business and investment activities.
All supported by the proactive programme of the Consumer Affairs Division, the sentinel of consumer protection in Trinidad and Tobago.
